The character of KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) in the original Knight Rider series was physically embodied as a modified 1982 Pontiac Trans Am with numerous special features such as Turbo Boost (which allowed quick bursts of speed or jumping over obstacles), the ability to drive 'himself', a front mounted scanner bar that (among other things) allowed KITT to 'see' (and a nod to series creator, Glen A. Larson and his
Battlestar Galactica's Cylons), and 'molecular bonded shell' body armor, portrayed to be invulnerable to diamond headed drills, small arms fire, the impact of thrown objects, and even high speed impact with cinder block wall. The armor could also resist close explosive blasts although a direct hit could cause severe damage. A refit in the 1985 season included the addition of "Super Pursuit Mode" and a convertible top.

William Daniels provided the voice of KITT in Knight Rider. He reprises his role in the game.
The designer for KITT also constructed the DeLorean Time Machine.
In the show, the scanner's light would move back and forth. The scanner does the same in the game via a decal-like image.
This was done as a homage to the Cylons from the show Battlestar Galactica, another science fiction television series made by Glen A. Larson.
KITT's laser ability in the game calls back to the fact that he had a laser for a few episodes, however in the episodes the laser only did one blast at a time, not a constant beam like in the game.
KITT's LEGO model for the game resembles the G-6155 Spy Hunter's model, with minor edits.
Skin 1 makes KITT look like K.I.F.T. (Knight Industries Four Thousand), a new form of KITT that replaced the Trans Am in the movie "Knight Rider 2000"
Skin 2 adds stars to KITT's body. This is a reference to an episode in the first season, "Slammin' Sammy's Stunt Show Spectacular", where Michael placed stars all over KITT to go undercover.
Skin 3 is a direct reference to Baywatch, as part of the running gag of allusions to David Hasselhoff.
K.I.T.T. is the one of the only 2 vehicles to react to characters and events. The other is the Jakemobile when used in A Book and a Bad Guy.
