- “Might I suggest that we set out on a quest to find this, er, "rift" you say?”
The Prologue is the beginning of LEGO Dimensions. It acts as a tutorial to introduce players to the game, and while not counted as a level by the game, could still be seen as such.
Story Mode Plot[]
When the game first boots up, Lord Vortech and X-PO arrive on Foundation Prime. After X-PO finds the location of the hints towards the Foundation Elements, Vortech explains that they were scattered across the dimensions long ago. As X-PO voices his doubts about Vortech's plan (as it is too dangerous to harness the Elements safely), he is banished to Vorton as Vortech no longer needed him. Unfortunately for Vortech, he has become too weak to travel across dimensions too often, so he creates a palace where he can recruit villains and trap the heroes pulled through the rifts that he creates between the dimensions.
Once the player starts the game, the scene switches to Gotham City. There, Batman and Robin are chasing Bane, who has stolen some Kryptonite in hopes of defeating Superman. As Robin turns a corner to try to cut off Bane's vehicle, a rift opens pulling him and a piece of Kryptonite he had picked up (a Foundation Element) into the rift. Confused at first, Batman drives the Batmobile into the rift after him.
Meanwhile in Middle-earth, Gandalf and the Fellowship of the Ring are in the Mines of Moria, attempting to escape from the Balrog. Gandalf weakens the bridge to the surface, causing the Balrog to break it upon stepping on it, but its flaming whip knocks Gandalf into the abyss below. Suddenly, a rift opens and sends Batman down alongside Gandalf, the two fighting the Balrog together as Batman asks a confused Gandalf about Robin's whereabouts. Batman uses his grappling gun to rescue Gandalf and reunite him with the others, but Frodo and his Foundation Element, the One Ring, are pulled into another rift, to which Batman and Gandalf respond by following him in, leaving the rest of the Fellowship to wait.
The story then shifts to Cloud Cuckoo Land, where a dance-off is happening. MetalBeard, the judge, announces Wyldstyle as the winner before he and his Treasure Chest (the Element for this dimension) are pulled into a rift. Batman and Gandalf then fall from another rift, landing on Batman's LEGO Movie counterpart. Leaving them to argue about who the real Batman is, Gandalf asks about the missing Frodo and explains the situation. Wyldstyle notes that she saw Metalbeard get pulled into a rift like the one Gandalf mentioned. Gandalf suggests they go on a quest to find their friends, but as Emmet and Unikitty leave to pack things for the trip, a rift pulls Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle in.
Inside the rift, Batman modifies Wyldstyle's Relic Scanner to find what's causing it, disrupting the signal and allowing them to escape. The main three heroes are then transported into Vorton though the LEGO Gateway, which explodes once they arrive and pulls the Keystones into the closing portal. The heroes, now given player control, then repair the gateway using their unique abilities. Once the gateway is restored and powered, the Gateway Keeper (later revealed to have been X-PO) informs the main heroes that limited system functionality has been restored, and a rift leading to the first Keystone is opened. Without anything else to guide them, the trio enter the gateway.
