Originally established as a prison colony for the British Empire after the American Declaration of Independence of 1776 in 1788 (although it was inhabited by Australian Aboriginals for more than 30,000 years earlier), the city of Sydney has become into a major global cultural and economic center, and is also the most populated city in the Oceania region. It is located in Australia's east coast, boarded by Port Jackson (the world's largest natural harbor) and the Blue Mountains. The city is also the second seat of office and official residence of the Governor-General and Prime Minister of Australia.
The residents are called Sydneysiders, and its population of 4.39 million as of 2011 has around 1.5 million who're born overseas, there are more than 250 languages spoken, and around one-third of the citizens can speak more than one language outside of English, making Sydney one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world.
The city has an advance market economy with its strong points found in finance, manufacturing and tourism; there are a big significant number of global banks and multinational companies that have offices there, making it one of Asia-Pacific's leading financial hubs. Millions of tourists visit the city to see its famous landmarks and it is also the gateway to Australia for many international visitors, which includes the Sydney Opera House, Royal Botanical Gardens, Bondi Beach, Royal National Park, Sydney Habor, and Sydney Harbor Bridge. Sydney hosted the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics, and is also the birthplace of Denmark's current Crown Princess, Mary Donaldson who married its current Crown Prince Frederick in 2004.
Ethan Hunt and his crew reached to the city in order to stop rogue IMF agent Sean Ambrose from spreading the Chimera disease all over the world in Mission: Impossible 2.
