The Twelfth Doctor is one of the Level Pack characters in LEGO Dimensions. He appears in 71204 Level Pack for the Doctor Who Franchise. He is the twelfth incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

The Twelfth Doctor emerged from his predecessor's explosive regeneration on Trenzalore, being the product of "regeneration number thirteen." He was the first incarnation of the Doctor's second regeneration cycle, which had been bestowed upon him by the Time Lords. Clara Oswald, continuing her travels with him after he regenerated, served as his primary companion, and at times acted as his moral compass. Assured of the survival of Gallifrey, he was no longer chained down by his guilt. A darker character with a withdrawn and spiky attitude, he was less amiable and habitually questioned his own goodness. Although this incarnation was no stranger to kindness and humor, he often dispensed with niceties in a tense situation, becoming cold and calculative in critical moments that required sound judgment and the occasional application of sharp practice. However, because of his detachment from emotions, he could come off as unpleasant, fearsome, and ruthless. These qualities often terrified those who were around him, even his companions. He became harder to trust, and acknowledged his shift toward negative personality traits, feeling incensed and fearful at what he was changing into. He first appeared with his other incarnations in the show's 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Dimensions Crisis

A Dalektable Adventure

Chronologically, The Doctor first appeared at the end of A Dalektable Adventure. In his TARDIS, The Doctor received a phone call from an unknown source. Thinking it's from the Daleks, The Doctor teleported to the place, which was the Daleks' base. He discovered that all the Daleks, including the Dalek Emperor, were defeated, and got shrank. He also met there Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle. When the heroes seem to know the Doctor, he realized that they already met his future self. He invited them to the TARDIS, where they told him that they were rescued by him after they got stuck in a rift loop. The Doctor then took them back to Vorton and used his screwdriver to fix the LEGO Gateway so they wouldn't get stuck in a rift loop again. The Doctor then went to rescue their past selves from the rift loop, but not before Batman gave him his grapple gun.

The first actual appearance of The Doctor in the game was at the beginning of the level. The Doctor came to the rift loop to rescue the version of Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle before they met him by using Batman's grapple gun, bringing the trio to safety in his TARDIS claiming that they have a lot of monsters to fight against. Batman immediately interrogated him on what is going on, but then the Doctor proceeds to explain the concept of time travel. Still not convinced, Batman thought he was lying, only for the Doctor to hand him the same grapple gun he used earlier to save them, which still baffled Batman. Shortly after the TARDIS rematerialized in 'Dave', he dropped the group off and gave them his phone number if ever they need his help before quickly leaving, stating as much as he wants to help them, that can only threaten the stability of his world.

The Final Dimension

After the defeat of the Tri, the trio quickly get more help, saving and enlisting the Doctor who was trapped by the Daleks, The Cybermen, the Zygons and the Weeping Angels. He then joins forces with the trio to stop Lord Vortech who have reached maximum power by this point. At first, he helped to fix X-PO and then went on building a device that can seal the space tyrant up with X-PO and GLaDOS, which was later used in the last battle against Lord Vortech. During the battle he distracts Vortech on the TARDIS on Foundation Prime, meanwhile the trio destroys the baseplate. After the destruction of the palace, he once again saves the trio and gives them the devices to trap Vortech. After the battle Wyldstyle asked if the Doctor managed to escape and then appeared behind her claiming that he waited for ages.

The Dalek Extermination of Earth

The Doctor returns as the main protagonist in the level pack, the daleks having conquered 2025 London and have begun converting humans into daleks the Doctor then makes several journeys across the timeline all the while the daleks pursue him through the various time periods before he makes his way to the Dalek Mothership to find the temporal origin of the ship in hopes of preventing the invasion before it even happens but he is soon captured and locked in a holding cell by the daleks, who not knowing the TARDIS has materialized inside the cell the Doctor escapes to Trenzalore before making his way to Skaro before the invasion is set to begin fighting his way through the toxic rivers and security systems before facing off against Davros and reprogramming the dalek target computer forcing the daleks to fire on Davros and eventually the uncontrollable friendly fire from the dalek guns cause the dalek fleet to be destroyed and Davros is forced into retreating, swearing vengeance on the Doctor.

Trivia

  • He is currently portrayed by Scottish actor Peter Capaldi who has been portraying him since the end of the Christmas special The Time of the Doctor in 2013.
    • Like Tenth Doctor actor and fellow Scot David Tennant, he was also a major fan of Doctor Who prior to being cast as the Doctor.
    • Unlike previous incarnations of The Doctor, Peter Capaldi reprises his role in this game. All of his predecessors are in the game through the use of archive audio.
    • Prior to being cast as the Doctor, he had previously appeared in the show as Roman merchant Lobus Caecilius in the series 4 episode The Fires of Pompeii and as Home Office Secretary and Torchwood Three government contact John Frobisher in the show's spin-off Torchwood miniseries Children of Earth.
  • The Twelfth Doctor's likeness to Caecilius (due to being portrayed by the same actor) is given an in-universe explanation in the ninth series. It was a result of the Doctor subconsciously choosing that face to remind him of the time that Donna Noble convinced his tenth incarnation to save Caecilius' family from the destruction of Pompeii, despite letting the rest of the town to perish to preserve history.
  • He is notably more friendly and approachable in the game than in the series. This is most likely because his somewhat hostile and dark personality could be frightening to children. Despite this, most of his comments to the other characters sound fairly accurate to what the Doctor would say (albeit in a more friendly tone).
  • His outfit in the game is directly based off from his first outfit which he wore at the end of his debut episode Deep Breath and throughout his first season. Since Series 9 however, he has a much different outfit and he has a different sonic screwdriver than portrayed in the game.
  • He shares the same hair piece with Peter Venkman and Seventh Doctor, although the latter has his mostly covered up by his Panama hat in-game.
  • When the player loses all of their in-game hearts in this form, The Doctor will regenerate back to the First Doctor, which then restarts his regeneration process all over again.
  • He is one of five playable characters who have both the Hacking and Technology Abilities: Doc Brown, Benny, the Cyberman, and Michael Knight are the other four characters.
  • The Twelfth Doctor breaks the fourth wall by saying "I suppose you expected me to come back with a bow tie and some 'entertaining' hair..." when he's supposed to regenerate back to the First Doctor but doesn't, either because the ability hasn't been unlocked yet or cycling through regenerations has been turned off (which players can do manually).
  • His secondary weapon/accessory, a spoon, is a throwback to a fight he had with Robin Hood in the series 8 episode Robot of Sherwood, as well as a reference to Seventh Doctor's habit of fiddling with spoons occasionally.
  • Many of the lines he speaks when facing other characters and entering certain vehicles will reference several of the eccentricities of his previous incarnations and other franchises.
    • The line he speaks to Homer Simpson regarding offering some jelly babies is in reference to Fourth Doctor's love for jelly babies.
    • His line when meeting Scooby-Doo and being a little uneasy with him stems from his time as Fourth and Tenth Doctors with K-9 who is a robot dog.
    • Whenever he enters inside the Batmobile, he would mention his old vintage yellow car Bessie and the Brigadier, both of which have been part of Third Doctor's time.
    • The line he speaks to Doc Brown is a reference to the Fourth Doctor's first episode Robot , where Dr. Harry Sullivan says he isn't fit yet.
    • One of his departure lines is reminiscent of one of Fourth Doctor's entry lines used in the game "First things first, but not in that order."
  • When he enters the DeLorean Time Machine, he would reference Doc Brown's quote of how the car must time travel by having going up to 88 mph and how he saved the space-time continuum three times over by traveling over 130 years of Hill Valley history shown in the trilogy.
  • Other lines are taken directly from past episodes:
    • The Doctor's reference to Clara being his carer is from "Into the Dalek".
    • His remark about having attack eyebrows comes from his debut, "Deep Breath".
    • His remark about not doing hugs goodbye refers to the incarnation's initial aversion to hugging and physical contact, though he did allow Clara to hug him goodbye in the episode "Death in Heaven" and during Season 9, which was being broadcast at the time the Twelfth Doctor was added as a playable character, he had started hugging Clara again.
  • When left idle, the Doctor will produce a blackboard upon which the word "LISTEN" appears. This is a reference to the Series 8 episode of the same title in which said word appeared mysteriously on a blackboard within the Doctor's TARDIS. Blackboards also played important roles in several other episodes.
  • Coincidentally, while he seals Lord Vortech in a "perfect prison", his Tenth incarnation had encountered a deity sealed in a "perfect prison" as well, in the episode The Satan Pit.
  • If the player quickly flies over long distances while the Doctor is in his/her party, it's not uncommon for the Doctor to die while in transit and regenerate into another incarnation.
  • His toy tag resembles his 1st major outfit (which is a navy blue suit with red lining) and its main symbol, the Doctor Who logo, resembles the TARDIS.

The First Doctor is the first incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

The First Doctor was, by his own statement, the "original" incarnation of The Doctor. Holding himself in high regard, he was prone to criticizing those whom he felt were naive or primitive compared to his intellect. However, he possessed compassion, warmth, and wit that made up for his egocentric nature, serving to act as a mentor and guardian figure in his elderly years. Originally a very difficult and curmudgeonly person, the First Doctor matured from an apparent selfishness and became more inviting. His happier, kinder characteristics fostered when he began to acquire an entourage of companions to accompany him throughout the wonders of the fourth dimension and learned to be a caregiver with a sense of justice in a universe afflicted by evils.

He died of exhaustion and old age while fighting against the Cybermen in the episode The Tenth Planet, causing him to regenerate for the first time, into the Second Doctor.

He met up with his Second and Third self on two occasions and with his Fifth self on one occasion. He joined his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was originally played by William Hartnell from 1963 to 1966. He returned in 1973 to play the Doctor in the anniversary story "The Three Doctors". His illness prevented him from acting opposite the other Doctors. Instead, his scenes were shot in front of a black screen and shown on a television screen inside the Third Doctor's TARDIS. Due to his death, Hartnell was then replaced by Richard Hurndall in 1983, who then played the part in the special feature-length episode "The Five Doctors" and in 2013, John Guilor voiced the part for the 50th Anniversary's big climax.
  • William Hartnell had to leave the role due to his poor health which affected his ability on screen. This is why he only appeared in the first two stories of the fourth season.
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature William Hartnell is used in-game for when the First Doctor is talking.
  • Two of the three possible lines he said when leaving are from a farewell speech when he bid farewell to his granddaughter Susan Foreman when she decided to live in 23rd Century Earth.
  • William Hartnell died in 1975.
  • Doc Brown is very similar to this Doctor because they both have time machines, both are old men and have similar hairstyles.

— Second Doctor's third line when entering the game.
The Second Doctor is the second incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

Though outwardly warm, bumbling, and clownish, the Second Doctor also had a darker, more cunning aspect to his personality — one which he usually kept hidden in order to carry out his plans. Regenerating when his first incarnation gave in to old age and fatigue following his fight with the Cybermen, this new incarnation was the product of The Doctor's first regeneration.

He was forced to regenerate into his next incarnation by the Time Lords after being put on trial for breaking the laws of non-interference and stealing the TARDIS.

He met up with his First self and Third self on two occasions and with his Fifth and Sixth self on one occasion. He joined his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by Patrick Troughton from 1966 to 1969. He made his first return in 1973 in the special "The Three Doctors". He later returned in 1983 in the special feature-length episode "The Five Doctors". In 1985 he made his last televised appearance as The Doctor in the story "The Two Doctors".
  • He is the first post-regeneration Doctor. He is also the only known Doctor incarnation who was forced, rather being killed or dying of natural causes, to regenerate into his next incarnation (Third Doctor) in the episode War Games. The Eighth Doctor was in a similar situation but made the choice to regenerate by himself.
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature Patrick Troughton is used in-game for when the Second Doctor is talking.
  • This Doctor incarnation often fights and argues with his successor Third Doctor a lot during their 2 team-up adventures, calling him 'Dandy' due to the latter's fancy-like and highly ornate sense of style.
  • He was also called the 'Clown' by First Doctor due to his 'messy' outfit. And later also "Little Fellow" due to his size.
  • William Hartnell - the First Doctor - approved of Patrick Troughton being cast as his replacement, stating "There's only one man in England who can take over, and that's Patrick Troughton".
  • Patrick Troughton left the role after three seasons in order to avoid typecasting as well as the amount of work that was exhausting him (around 40 episodes a season). Subsequent seasons were shortened to around 20-28 episodes per season, allowing his two successors to outlast him.
    • He passed this idea onto Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor, and thus no Doctors past the Tom Baker era have made more than three seasons. Peter Davison, David Tennant (Ten), Matt Smith (Eleven]) and Peter Capaldi (Twelve) all left the role after three seasons due to similar reasons. On the other hand, Colin Baker (Six) was fired after only two seasons, Sylvester Mccoy's (Seven) tenure was cut short by the classic series' cancellation, Paul McGann (Eight) only appeared in the movie and Christopher Eccleston (Nine) quit the show after one season due to "politics".
  • Patrick Troughton died in 1987.
  • Interestingly, Troughton is connected to the Harry Potter series indirectly as his grandson Harry Melling portrayed Dudley Dursley in the films.
    • Also, Harry Potter had the same hair piece with Second Doctor before in the older LEGO Harry Potter sets and video games, but for LEGO Dimensions however, he has gotten a new hair piece.
  • In The Goonies (Level), there is a secret area based on his episode Power of the Daleks.

— Third Doctor's third line when entering the game.
The Third Doctor is the third incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

The Third Doctor was exiled by the Time Lords on Earth for a significant period of his life. The technological limits of the time period and the constraints of his exile often made him frustrated and bitter. However, he retained his endearing compassion toward his human companions. This Doctor worked for UNIT as their unpaid scientific advisor and remained in their service after his exile was ended. Unlike his earlier incarnations, he was quite willing to engage others physically and cut a more dashing figure.

His foremost enemy was a fellow Time Lord, The Master. Although appalled by the disregard for life inherent in The Master's schemes, The Doctor treated their relationship as somewhat of a friendly rivalry, even enjoying their battle of wits. The Master reflected an equally casual attitude back at him. He also held out hope that he could rehabilitate The Master, whom he had once considered a friend. Though The Master sometimes teamed up with The Doctor to deal with foes who threatened them, he always bent to dark and malicious desires, which kept their mutual antagonism alive.

This Doctor died from severe Radiation exposure after dealing with the deadly spiders of Metebelis III during one of his space travels, causing him to regenerate into the Fourth Doctor.

He met up with his First] and Second] self on two occasions and with his Fifth self on one occasion. He joined his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by Jon Pertwee from 1963 to 1966. He later returned in 1983 in the special feature-length episode "The Five Doctors", and in 1993 for a crossover between Doctor Who and the British soap opera EastEnders. Pertwee's final performance as the Third Doctor was in 1995, in a fan production called "Devious".
  • With five seasons Jon Pertwee is the third-longest actor to portray the role, beaten only by Tom Baker with 7 seasons and William Hartnell who was in less seasons but appeared in more episodes/stories due to the reduction of episodes produced per season following the Black and White era. The main contributing factor behind his departure was the death of his friend and co-star Robert Delgado (the first incarnation of the Master seen in the show).
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature Jon Pertwee is used in-game for when the Third Doctor is talking.
  • This Doctor often argues and fights with his predecessor Second Doctor during their two team-up adventures, often calling him 'Scarecrow' due to the latter's build. Jon Pertwee and Patrick Troughton continued these (fake) arguments in real-life to please the fans.
  • He was the very first Doctor to work for Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and U.N.I.T (United Nations International Taskforce).
  • He was the first Doctor to drive a yellow vintage car called Bessie. His twelfth incarnation references Bessie when operating a vehicle.
  • The Third Doctor is known for utilizing the unarmed combat style "Venusian akido". While other incarnations have demonstrated formidable fighting skills, this Doctor was the most consistent in resorting to physical combat in tough situations and is arguably the most skilled at it. This is in part due to Jon Pertwee's insistence to preform actions scenes.
  • He was the first Doctor to face the Sontarans, the Silurians and the Master.
  • Jon Pertwee died suddenly from a Heart attack in 1996.
  • This Doctor attacks with a fencing saber, a reference to his swordfight with the Master in The Sea Devils.
  • He was mostly cut off in the final roundup of the Doctor incarnations in LEGO Dimensions Who's Got Talent Trailer; however, you can see him clearly in seconds prior to the final group picture, and you can still see his hand there in the group picture.
  • When visiting the Black Archive in the Doctor Who level pack, you have to fix Bessie. When Bessie is completed, the Third Doctor will pop out of a portal while being chased by a Time Scoop. He then jumps into Bessie and drives off, mimicking a scene from the 20th Anniversary 1983 special The Five Doctors.

The Fourth Doctor is the fourth incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

Filled with wanderlust and a renewed curiosity towards exploring time and space, the Fourth Doctor left all ties of his previous incarnation's exile behind on Earth, setting off to travel the Cosmos. He initially travelled with Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan, but Harry chose to remain on Earth when the opportunity arose. The Doctor and Sarah continued on their adventures until The Doctor was summoned to Gallifrey, necessitating that he leave Sarah Jane behind as humans were not allowed on Gallifrey. After that trip, he met a girl called Leela, an ancestor of the human race. They travelled for a while until she decided to stay on Gallifrey with K-9. Later in his life, he received a quest from the White Guardian to search for the pieces to the Key of Time. He was also known for his multicoloured scarf and bag of tasty Jelly Babies which he was really fond of.

Additionally, like his predecessor, the Third Doctor, he worked for UNIT but briefly and drove Bessie. He was also the first to have the Robot Dog K-9 as a companion.

He was killed by falling to his death from a really high Radio Telescope and regenerated into the Fifth Doctor.

He joined his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax. In the same episode, Tom Baker also appeared as a mysterious character known as "The Curator", who is implied, but not confirmed, to be an incarnation of the Doctor from the far future.

  • He was played by Tom Baker from 1974 to 1981, making him the longest running actor to play The Doctor. He later returned in 2013 in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" as The Curator (an older version of the Fourth Doctor). In 1993, he briefly reprised the Fourth Doctor for Dimensions in Time, a crossover between Doctor Who and the British soap opera EastEnders.
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature Tom Baker is used in-game for when the Fourth Doctor is talking.
  • When he double jumps, he pulls out a yo-yo. This is a reference to the fact that on multiple occasions, he was seen playing with a yo-yo.
  • He shares the same last name with the Sixth Doctor actor Colin Baker. However, they are not related.
  • He is the only Doctor known to have two different TARDIS "desktop themes" in the game.

The Fifth Doctor is the fifth incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

With his young looks, the Fifth Doctor expressed an interest in things associated with Victorian and Edwardian England: cricket, tea, fair play, good manners, and a keen interest in science and exploration. He was also a sensitive and profusely humane incarnation who did not make himself an imposition, preferring to be honest, reserved, and honourable. However, the Fifth Doctor was also less willing to do what he thought was immoral and became highly conflicted about what choices he could make in a crisis that were truly right. His hesitancy made him seemingly more fallible than many other incarnations, making those around him wonder if he was capable of resolving difficult situations. Nevertheless, he was one of the most overtly fearless incarnations and frequently found himself right in the thick of battle.

He was killed by Spectrox Toxemia, a deadly intergalactic poison and later regenerated into the Sixth Doctor.

He met up with his First, Second and Third self on one occasion and with his Tenth self on another occasion. He joined his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • In an occasional reminder of his actual age, The Doctor would sport a pair of glasses when examining something. These were his "brainy specs", which he wore to make him look "a bit clever". He often delegated some decisions to a simple flip of a coin.
  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by Peter Davison from 1981 to 1984. He later returned in 2007 in the Children In Need Special: "Time Crash".
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature Peter Davison is used in-game for when the Fifth Doctor is talking.
  • Strangely enough after Time Crash, Davison would end up becoming the father-in-law to Tenth Doctor's actor David Tennant after the latter married his daughter Georgina Moffet who played the (Tenth) Doctor's cloned daughter Jenny in the episode The Doctor's Daughter which they worked on during Tennant's run as the Doctor.
  • Peter Davison decided to leave the role after 3 seasons on the advice of Patrick Troughton, the Second Doctor, to avoid typecasting.

— Sixth Doctor's third line when entering the game.
The Sixth Doctor is the sixth incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

Arrogant, dramatic, self-absorbed, driven and stubborn, the Sixth Doctor instantly believed himself superior to almost anyone he encountered. He would often browbeat others into submission with his savage wit and his grammarian's interest in language. Even so, his mercurial and flippant tendencies did not define the true heart of his persona. Beneath his thunderous and turbulent exterior, he was quite the opposite: a passionate, warm, virtuous and empathic individual.

This Doctor unexpectedly died when a rogue Time Lady called the Rani bombarded the TARDIS with deadly radiation while he was travelling with companion Melanie 'Mel' Blush in The Time and the Rani, which accelerated his regeneration into the Seventh Doctor.

He met up with his Second self in the episode "The Two Doctors". He joined his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by Colin Baker from 1984 to 1986.
  • Colin Baker has the same last name as Fourth Doctor actor Tom Baker, however, the two are not related.
  • The Sixth Doctor's time TV was haunted by frequent conflicts behind the scenes between the show's producer, John Nathan-Turner, and the BBC controller, Michael Grade, over the style of the show, which Grade publicly denounced as "rubbish" and "pathetic", and the casting of Colin Baker, whom Grade found unfit for the role. Eventually Grade threatened with outright cancelling the show if Baker was not fired, a demand to which Nathan-Turner relented, and as a result, Baker's tenure was cut short. To this date, Baker remains the only actor to have been fired from the role. In 1993, he returned to TV, reprising the role for a crossover with the British series Eastenders, called Dimensions in Time.
    • As a result, Colin Baker wasn't present during his Doctor's regeneration scene (he was instead doubled by Sylvester Coy in a blond wig). The producers offered him one more story to film his regeneration scene and Baker refused it due to his dismissal (he had originally intended on beating Tom Baker's seven-year tenure as the Fourth Doctor had he stayed).
    • Because of his firing, Colin Baker had the shortest tenure as the Doctor in the classic series. He was beaten by Paul McGann whose television run started and ended with the Doctor Who movie.
    • Despite his short time in the role, the Sixth Doctor appeared in much more stories through expanded material such as novels, comics and audio adventures (voiced by Colin Baker himself).
  • When he hits something, he uses a multi-colored umbrella, an accessory this Doctor used a few times.
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature Colin Baker is used in-game for when the Sixth Doctor is talking. Here are some of the lines: "Change. My dear. And it seems not a moment too soon." And "This is a situation that requires fact and finesse. Fortunately. I am blessed with both." The first line mentioned above was said after the Sixth Doctor's regeneration from the Fifth Doctor. It was also the last line of the Sixth Doctor's first episode.

— Seventh Doctor's second line when entering the game.
A stitch in time... fills up space.
— Seventh Doctor's third line when entering the game.
The Seventh Doctor is the seventh incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

Originally a man with the demeanor of an eccentric, light-hearted buffoon, the Seventh Doctor darkened into a mysterious, cunning manipulator to properly combat the return of Fenric. Though he delighted in humorous reverie, it was only the surface layer of his true nature. Beneath, he was a Machiavellian genius of frightful caliber who tactfully used his mind to control nearly all situations into reaching his personal favored outcome. Despite this, he could also show profound warmth and affection to his companions, and built a strong bond with many of them.

This Doctor incarnation died in the 1996 TV film when he got shot in a gang fight in San Francisco, California, and died in the hands of human doctors trying to help him but not well-versed in Time Lord anatomy, and regenerated into the Eighth Doctor in a morgue.

He joined his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by Sylvester McCoy from 1987 to 1989 and later returned in 1996 in "Doctor Who (TV Movie 1996)". In 1993, he also appeared in Dimensions in Time, a crossover between Doctor Who and EastEnders.
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature Sylvester McCoy is used in-game for when the Seventh Doctor is talking.
  • McCoy is the first Scottish actor to play The Doctor, followed by David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor (but with a different accent) and Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor.
    • Unlike Capaldi, McCoy didn't use his natural accent. Instead, he rolled his R's and placed emphasis on certain syllables to give his dialect a slight Scottish feel.
  • One of this incarnation's idle animations shows him playing the spoons. This is something his actor Sylvester McCoy is obsessed with in real-life. This incarnation was seen playing with spoons in his debut episode.
    • This is also transferred to the Twelfth Doctor actually using a spoon to fight Robin Hood in the series 8 episode Robot of Sherwood, as well as his secondary weapon/accessory in LEGO Dimensions.
  • His actor, Sylvester McCoy, also played Radagast the Brown in the Hobbit Trilogy, an entry in the The Lord of the Rings cinematic franchise.
  • His character uses an umbrella as his weapon, and is also seen carrying it around when idle. This is a reference to the fact that throughout the show, the Seventh Doctor would always carry the umbrella.
  • When this Doctor uses the sonic screwdriver, he will use the same hand that he holds his umbrella with, making the sonic waves look like they're being emitted from it.
  • He actually shares the same hair piece as with Peter Venkman and Twelfth Doctor; however, it is mostly covered by his hat. Although one of his idle animations has him lifting his hat briefly.

— Eighth Doctor's third line when entering the game.
The Eighth Doctor is the eighth incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions upon purchase of the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

The Eighth Doctor was an effortlessly charming, romantic figure. He was unguarded about his background and equally candid about what the future held for people he came into contact with. His first adventure took place in San Francisco at the turn of the Millennium with Dr Grace Holloway and Chang Lee in an epic battle with The Master.

Much later, after many adventures with many companions, the Eighth Doctor's fate is finally sealed during the Time War, as he attempts to rescue a young pilot named Cass, whose ship was crashing into the planet Karn. When Cass realized that the Eighth Doctor was a Time Lord and in her eyes an enemy, she refused his help and deliberately allowed the ship to crash into Karn.

After both failing to save Cass and being killed in the crash, the "Sisterhood of Karn" restored the Eighth Doctor to life and presented him with the option to choose what his next regeneration will be. The Eighth Doctor, though horribly conflicted, chose to become a warrior, in hope of ending the war once and for all.

At some point in his life he joined both his later and previous incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped to finally save his home planet of Gallifrey, during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by Paul McGann in 1996 in "Doctor Who (TV Movie)". He later returned in 2013 in the mini-episode "The Night of the Doctor".
  • The Eighth Doctor's appearance in-game is based on what he wore in the the mini-episode "The Night of the Doctor".
  • Archive Audio from the "Doctor Who (TV Movie 1996)" and the mini-episode "The Night of the Doctor", which both feature Paul McGann, is used in-game for when the Eighth Doctor is talking.
  • The Eighth Doctor's TARDIS interior is based on the one that we see in the 1996 TV Movie.
  • It's possible that the reason behind the earlier builds of the game showing that when you entered the TARDIS as the Eighth Doctor you would in fact be inside the War Doctor's TARDIS interior from "The Day of the Doctor" is because the original 1996 TV Movie TARDIS interior design wasn't finished at the time.
  • For some reason, The 1996 TV Movie theme isn't available from the In-TARDIS Entertainment. This is likely because the TV Movie was produced under 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios, rather than the BBC, with the BBC only recently acquiring rights to distribute the soundtrack.
  • One of the designers for the 2013 Doctor Who set from Lego Ideas is related to Paul McGann and jokingly stated that they had to make the set since "The Doctor" (Paul himself) tweeted about it.

— War Doctor's third line when entering the game.
The War Doctor is considered a special incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

Originally young and robust, the War Doctor set upon the warrior path for which he had been intended, and disavowed the name of "The Doctor". Though the Time Lords and Daleks continued to refer to him by that name, he was also referred to as "the Renegade" by Lady Priyan and "the Warrior" by Clara Oswald. After becoming old and tired of battle and faced with the end of reality, The Doctor considered activating the Moment, to end the Time War by committing genocide against both the Daleks and his own people. However, the Moment's sentient interface led him down a different path by letting him view his future first-hand. By teaming up with his later selves, his mind was opened to a heroic way to end the Time War in lieu of the deadly alternative he was going to enact. Shortly after the events of the Time War, he died of old age and exhaustion, transitioning the regeneration into the Ninth Doctor.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by the late John Hurt in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor". He also played him for "The Name of the Doctor" and "The Night of the Doctor". This last performance was only one line: "No more" over old archive footage.
    • He has also previously portrayed Garrick Ollivander in the film adaptation of the Harry Potter series.
  • He is the only version of the Doctor to have a beard.
  • This Doctor's number of Doctor is often debated. Some say that he was not truly a Doctor (and therefore isn't numbered), while other fans believe that this was the Ninth Doctor, and all other doctors who came after him had to be bumped up one.
  • Archive Audio from "The Name of the Doctor" and "The Day of The Doctor" which feature John Hurt are used in-game for when the War Doctor is talking.
  • The War Doctor's TARDIS has a LEGO version of The Moment that can be built. When activated His TARDIS console explodes in flames.
  • His regeneration is very similar to that of the First Doctor. He even says "Wearing a bit thin" which he said just before he changed.
  • When he uses his Gallifreyan blaster, the words no more appear, a reference to his hatred of the Time War and the line "Doctor No More" in the 50th Anniversary episode "Day of The Doctor".
  • In "Day of the Doctor", he has a different Sonic Screwdriver.
  • Originally the Ninth Doctor was conceived to be the one who ended the Time War, however actor Christopher Eccleston declined to reprise his role resulting in the creation of a never-before-seen past incarnation of the Doctor. Eccleston's predecessor, Eighth Doctor actor Paul McGann shot a minisode which showed him regenerating in the War Doctor.

— Ninth Doctor's third line when entering the game
The Ninth Doctor is the ninth incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

The Ninth Doctor was the direct survivor of the Last Great Time War, but left the conflict with the excruciating knowledge of his hand in its grisly conclusion. He was plain spoken and didn't suffer fools gladly. In spite of this, he still had an irrepressible curiosity and unmistakable alien outlook, which allowed him to charm and beguile friends and foes alike.

Now cut off from the Time Lord race, The Doctor found himself alone and bereaved. Emotionally haunted by the war, he entered a darker period of his life spattered by resentment, where he tended to brood and act crossly to those who rubbed him the wrong way. Despite this, he remained jovial and quite friendly towards anyone he took a liking to, slowly reasserting himself as The Doctor while letting go of his lingering wartime persona.

After a fantastic series of adventures, the Ninth Doctor's life came to an end as he saved his companion, Rose Tyler, by absorbing the Time Vortex from her, causing him to regenerate into the Tenth Doctor.

At some point in his life he joined both his later and previous incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped to finally save his home planet of Gallifrey, during the special's climax.

— Tenth Doctor's third line when entering the game.
The Tenth Doctor is the tenth incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

Unlike his immediate predecessor, who was plagued by melancholy due to his actions during the Last Great Time War, the Tenth Doctor possessed an outgoing, lively and genial demeanor that hid his "survivor's guilt". For most of his incarnation, The Doctor was able to successfully project a convivial and even frivolous front. However, when he had to engage in conflict, the Tenth Doctor's energies would shift toward heroism to reveal a fiercely protective man who resolutely guarded what he held dear, and who could be viciously unforgiving to the forces that dared menace them.

The Tenth Doctor was killed by a Dalek but he channeled his regeneration energy into his severed hand resulting in him regenerating into the same form.

This incarnation died when he took a hard blow of high-level radiation to save Wilfred Mott; but like Ninth Doctor, he was able to suppress the regeneration for a few hours while making quick visits to his previous companions. After that was said and done, he later made an explosive regeneration into the Eleventh Doctor, which nearly destroyed the TARDIS as an consequence.

He later met the Eleventh and War Doctors, as well as joining the rest of his incarnations to save Gallifrey from the destruction of the Time War in the climax of the show's 50th anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor".

Trivia

  • This Doctor incarnation is played by Scottish actor David Tennant, who happens to be a big fan of the show prior to being cast as the Doctor like Twelfth Doctor's Peter Capaldi.
    • Tennant had appeared previously on the Harry Potter film series where he portrayed Barty Crouch Jr. in the film version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire released in 2005.
  • Like the Fifth Doctor, he often puts on glasses when examining something.
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature David Tennant is used in-game for when the Tenth Doctor is talking. Here are some of the lines: "I'm The Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasteroborous." And "Allons-y!"
  • He has a catchphrase which is "Allons-y!" (Let's go in French).
  • While Tennant's the second Scottish actor to play the Doctor, he had to use a different accent during his tenure, because the then-showrunner, Russell T. Davies, didn't want any Northern accents for the Doctor at the time, even after Christopher Eccleston's time as the Ninth Doctor.
  • David Tennant would end up becoming the son in-law of Fifth Doctor actor Peter Davison, after the former married the latter's daughter, Georgina Moffet, some time after working on the episode The Doctor's Daughter in which Moffet played the Doctor's cloned daughter Jenny.
  • The Tenth Doctor's TARDIS has his hand that was cut off by the leader of the Sycorax within the first 15 hours of his regeneration. At some point, Captain Jack Harkness found the hand and kept it at Torchwood Three until he reunited with the Doctor.
    • This hand would later become the Meta-Crisis Doctor by accident when his later companion, Donna Noble, accidentally had Time Lord powers temporarily in "Journey's End", giving her human essence into the hand, making it into a carbon copy of the Doctor.
  • The Tenth Doctor is unique among his other incarnations. While the Doctor is typically portrayed as largely asexual figure, the Tenth Doctor had romantic feelings for his companion Rose Tyler, been the object of unrequited love from his other companion Martha Jones, and is often kissed/flirted with by other characters due to his good looks. The sexual tension between himself and his companions was so significant that he was overjoyed to have Donna as his companion due to her not finding him physically attractive - acting as the "mate" he always wanted.
  • The Tenth Doctor has the most companions of any other Doctor (excluding companions originating from non-televised sources such as novels, comics and audio stories). He has three full-time companions (Rose Tyler, Martha Jones and Donna Noble), three recurring companions (Mickey Smith, Captain Jack Harkness and Sarah Jane Smith), and six one-off companions exclusive to specials (Astrid Peth, Jackson Lake, Rosita Farisi, Christina de Souza, Adelaide Brooke and Wilfred Mott). However, what counts as a companion is rather dubious. Some companions have never traveled in the TARDIS, like Astrid Peth, but are considered as companions by official Doctor Who sources. Also, Rosita was actually a companion of Jackson Lake, but accompanied the real Doctor at Lake's behest.

The Eleventh Doctor is the eleventh incarnation of The Doctor that is playable in LEGO Dimensions when you purchase the 71204 Level Pack.

Background

The Eleventh Doctor was a gauche, capricious, emotionally unpredictable and adventurous incarnation of the renegade Time Lord known as The Doctor, as well as the final incarnation of his original regeneration cycle. However, by this point in his life, his reputation had grown immense, attracting a new strain of conflicts. Wishing to withdraw from the dangers it created, he became a secretive and guileful individual for the sake of himself and those he held close. He engaged in a centuries-long struggle to the death against his enemies, including an assassination plot and a last stand against the Silence.

He later passed away in the Christmas special The Time of the Doctor from old age (but not before being granted by the Time Lords a new regeneration cycle for saving Gallifrey from the devastating effects of The Moment in the Time War), regenerating into the Twelfth Doctor in front of a stunned Clara Oswald.

He joined his War and Tenth Doctor self as well as his other incarnations in the shows 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor" where he helped save his home planet during the special's climax.

Trivia

  • This incarnation of The Doctor was played by Matt Smith from 2010 to 2013.
  • This Doctor is the only character that wears a fez and the only character that uses the mop as a weapon.
  • Like the Tenth Doctor, he has a catchphrase in the form of, "Geronimo!"
  • Archive Audio from specific episodes that feature Matt Smith is in-game for when the Eleventh Doctor is talking. Here are some of the lines: "Hello. I'm The Doctor" And "All of time and space: everything that ever happened. Or ever will... Where do you want to start?"
  • The costume Eleventh Doctor is wearing in the game is derived from his first look in his earlier seasons. After losing his companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams by being captured by the Weeping Angels in New York City in the episode "Angels Take Manhattan", his clothes became more sober in tone and was changed into a purple color scheme, which lasted until his regeneration into Twelfth Doctor in the Christmas special "The Time of the Doctor".
  • His actor Matt Smith is currently the youngest actor to be cast as The Doctor, being at 26/27 years old at the time of casting. This record was previously held by Peter Davison (Fifth Doctor) at 29 years old.
  • Matt Smith returned in the episode right after his regeneration for a brief, newly shot, cameo appearance. This is the first time this was done by a Doctor.
  • The Eleventh Doctor comes included in the LEGO Ideas Doctor Who set as a minifigure, along with Clara Oswald and the Twelfth Doctor.
  • The Eleventh Doctor makes a brief cameo appearance riding a Triceratops in the secret area found via the TARDIS pad in the Riddle-earth Level. This area is based off the Eleventh Doctor story Dinosaurs on A Spaceship from the first half of Season 7 in 2012.
  • When idle, he will dance in a ridiculous manner called the "Drunk giraffe", a reference to the episode "The Big Bang".
  • He shares the same hairpiece with Lloyd.
